After more than a decade on the sidelines, the company is getting revived (under new management) and their first offering broke cover just recently. Unlike Buell sportbikes of old which were powered by lazy, torque rich Harley engines, this one gets a powerful Rotax sourced lump. We start on the Triumph stand, and my first pick is the Triumph Tiger 1200 – which was unveiled to the public during Motorcycle Live. It’s clear from the outset that Triumph has had a single-minded approach to the development of the 2022 Tiger 1200 range: to beat BMW’s R 1250 GS in every way and Triumph has thrown everything it’s effort; a project which started four years ago.
Aprilia RS 125 GP Replica
When you’re 17 and only qualify only for an A1-compliant 15bhp 125, a sports bike has a slightly different meaning with styling and kudos triumphing but with usability and affordability being important, too. But although Yamaha’s best-selling R125 remains popular, the ultimate ‘poster bike’ for this generation is surely Italian marque Aprilia’s gorgeous RS 125.
Effectively the Ducati of the 125 class, the RS built its reputation in the ‘90s on a screaming, 125GP-alike two-stroke engine with the aluminum twin beam frame, cycle parts and styling to match. And although since 2011 Euro regulations have forced it to switch to more muted, four-stroke power, its RSV4-alike styling, quality brakes and suspension and GP heritage means it’s still the one most lust after.
Honda RC213V

This beast is tuned in the stables of the Honda Repsol team to participate in the tournaments and has racers like Marc MarquAt its heart is a liquid-cooled four valves 1000cc engine capable of producing a maximum power of over 234 bhp. With a top speed of 350 kmph, it’s blinding fast!ez and Dani Pedrosa riding on it.
Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory
The 660 range will be growing by at least two bikes this year and if the two bikes already on the market are anything to go by then there truly is much to get excited about. As much as the baby Tuono is already a great package, the factory edition is a decent step up. It gets a small 5 horsepower upgrade, blacked out graphics and a more adjustable suspension setup with fully adjustable KYB forks up front and an uprated Sachs shock at the back.
Suzuki GSX-RR
At number 5 spot in the list of best sports bikes in the world is Suzuki GSX-RR. Introduced as a successor to the popular Suzuki GSV-R it has been in the racing scene for two years now. It is the go-to bike for Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales representing Team Suzuki Ecstar. It has a 4-valve, 4-stroke 1000cc engine capable of producing power of up to 227hp and a top speed of 330kmph.
Ducati Streetfighter V2
We initially thought the V2 would get the same engine as the new monster, which would have made it a fair bit cheaper, too. It seems Ducati were not ready to cannibalize Monster sales, so they equipped it with the potent Superquadro engine, which is good for over 150 horsepower. This makes the baby Streetfighter more than just a little capable, but also a shade less affordable than we hoped.
BMW S1000R
BMW has been the king of 1000cc Sports Bikes since 2010. And, the BMW S1000R is a further testament to that fact. Powered by a 999cc inline-4 engine, it gives a power of 193hp and a top speed of 300kmph. Often cited as more comfortable to ride compared to the other bikes on this list and for good reason, it steers well, leans well, and stops well
Yamaha YZF-R1M
At the top place in the list of best sports bikes in the world in 2022 is Yamaha YZF-R1M. The R1 series bikes have had a glorious history for being in the business since 1998. And without much surprise, the newest version doesn’t disappoint either. It has all the modern electronic package like slide control, anti-wheelie system, launch control, quick shifter, and selectable power modes. It has a 998 cc engine delivering a power of 179.6 hp and has a top speed of 284 kmph.
